DOOR TO DOOR

Watching Door to Door, I did not know what to expect or what to feel for that matter. The title itself was extremely interesting that I thought, “Door to Door? Why Door to Door?”      I was expecting that it would be about a Sped teacher who will be helping those parents who are in denial that their child is in need of some sort of special help; and that it is entitled Door to Door because this teacher is going or is visiting each home to help each of his students and their parents open their eyes to the fact that their child needed special help. Then when the film started and I saw how Bill walked and talked, this was when I realized that my speculations were extremely wrong.
The moment that I saw Helen Mirren, I had a feeling that it was a very good movie. Although, I only know her because of her movie “The Queen” and “National Treasure 2”, it still does not take out the fact that she is a brilliant actress. And seeing William H. Macy star in this movie really caught my attention. I admire him so much. He is such an amazing actor, he has done a LOT of movies with different genres so it only proves how versatile he really is as an actor. I think that he could play any role. I was very familiar with him because of his movie “Pleasantville” and “Air Force One” these two movies are only two of my favorite movies; so when I saw him in the movie, I had a feeling that it was going to be interesting. Obviously, I love watching movies so much because as what Steve Martin has said You know what your problem is, it's that you haven't seen enough movies - all of life's riddles are answered in the movies. This makes so much sense in making me realize why I enjoy watching movies so much. Movies are not just a form of entertainment or something to do and watch time pass by; when watching movies, it’s just like having an answer sheet in each life lesson. We just have to dig deeper and see the bigger picture rather than the good-looking people portraying the character that we admire and are serving as our inspiration to do better. Truthfully, I do admire Helen Mirren and William H. Macy. Although, I have a bunch of other actors and actresses that I personally admire, they are really on the list. Helen Mirren and William H. Macy are two wonderful and highly respected actors whose movies are filled with content and not just to make money or to get fame. It is all about the quality of the films that they are making.

There are so many movies; and each movie together with the characters in the movies are different from one another. Just like us, people. We are all very different from one another and this goes with movies also. So, it is only safe to say that we are all connected with one another. In so many ways, we see ourselves in the movies we watch, or we can relate with the character/s in movies. This is why movies are important. This is why we enjoy watching movies and are very attached to it. Movies are part of who we are and without movies, we would feel alone. We would feel negative all the time and we might give up. In a twisted way, movies save us. How? The characters in movies are showing us how and what life really is. The truth is , life sucks. It’s a series of trials, challenges and tests that we could never perfect. No matter how much we ‘study’ and ‘practice’ to get and do things right, something always, always goes wrong. But though movies, it somehow makes it easier. We see characters in movies experience even more harder things than we can ever imagine. But in the end, there is always a happy ending. Some people do not believe that a thing called ‘happy ending’ does not exist, but because of movies, we have this hope inside of us that makes us believe that there might me. And we should hold on to that thing strand of hope of believing that a happy ending exists and when the time is right, we would have our own happy ending. That’s why if things are extremely hard for us, then it just means that we haven’t reached the end yet.
Bill Porter’s story is very interesting and so inspiring in so many ways that the list could go on and on. He is such an inspiring person because he has proved that there is no such thing as hindrance/s in one’s life. Considering that Bill could make a lot of excuses so that he would not work or would be depressed because of his condition, but he is not. He sees himself as a normal human being and demands that he be treated normally just like everyone else.  There are so many parts of the movie that made my heart jump inches to the left. One of these was when he was voted “Salesman of the Year” (if I’m not mistaken by the name of the award that he received), just the way Bill’s face brightened when he heard his name. There was a certain glow in his face that no one could take away from him. He loves his job, he feels normal and somewhat alive with the type of job that he has. Yes, it is not like the highest job in the world but the fact that Bill feels happy and fulfilled with his job is worth everything compared to being the president of the company. Let’s face it, there are some people who are not happy with their jobs but they are successful; however they are not contented, why? Because they are not passionate with what they do, everyone needs passion in doing something. Passion is something that a person must possess because it makes everything worth it. This is what Bill has. He is not just a salesman. He is a very passionate salesman.
Another part was when his mother got sick and she passed away. It was tough because she was everything to him. He thought that he has no one else in his life. It’s like he felt alone, then the way he looked at the mother and baby when he was trying to make a sale was very painful for me. There was just a certain way how Bill was looking at the baby was, different; Different in a way that was very obvious that he misses his mother. It was hard for me to watch that part, just because I am also very close to my mom and I really cannot imagine living and breathing without her.
One of the things that I am very surprised to see was how stubborn Bill is and how much pride he has. Bill wants to be treated normally with no special treatment even if he was hit by a bus, he still wanted to pay the bills by working out something on his own which lead him to sell his home. Even if his’ assistants’ husband offered to help, he was very firmed in saying “NO”. Bill is indeed a very interesting person, because normally, people would do anything to get things for free, seek whatever benefits they could get in order to pay less and not the actual amount. But with Bill, he would rather pay the full amount because “it’s the right thing to do”
The movie “Door to Door” is such an amazing movie and I am very happy that I had the chance to watch this. Bill Porter is one of the most hardworking, passionate and  inspiring people that I have ever…seen. He has been through a lot in his life and despite his condition, he was still able to live like a normal person and gain everything even if he lost everything. He lost his mom, whom he thought was his only family, but found out that he had a second family – everyone. Bill was loved by everybody who knew him. His clients, his co-workers and his assistant, they are his family also. He made an impact in their lives that I am sure they will never forget him. –the two neighbors who used to be “moral enemies” became soul mates because of Bill; He was there for the gay lovers, he never judged them and understood the love that they have for one another, Bill accepted them when others judged them; Bill did not even know that he also made a difference in the boy’s life who became a published writer in their newspaper that he dedicated his article to Bill.
Bill Porter has touched so many lives and has reached out to so many people through his movie. He gave hope to the hopeless and made me personally believe in myself and that anything is possible as long as we work hard enough and is determined.
